South Australia Police will provide an update on their search for missing four-year-old Gus Lamont this afternoon.
In a media statement on Thursday morning, police said Superintendent Darren Fielke will address the media at 3pm (ACST) to provide an update on the search for the little boy.
“Major Crime Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke will provide an update on Taskforce Horizon’s search activities at Oak Park Station at 3pm today 28 May 2026,” the force said.
It comes after a major new search was launched on Tuesday when officers returned to the Oak Park Station in Yunta to explore a new opportunity to search for the young child.
“The searching has resumed to take advantage of opportunities that may have arisen as a result of recent heavy rains on the property,” an SA Police spokesperson said.
“Task Force Horizon members will be searching numerous locations on the property for evidence in the case over the next three days.
“The searching will be conducted by Major Crime detectives and specialist STAR Group officers.”
Gus vanished without a trace from a family homestead on Oak Park Station in South Australia’s mid-north. He was last seen on September 27, 2025.
The little boy’s disappearance triggered one of the largest searches in South Australian history, spanning more than 470 square kilometres.
The initial searched involved extensive resources including mounted officers, drones, aircraft. SES volunteers and Aboriginal trackers.
Despite the efforts of those involved, the only physical clue uncovered by investigators so far has been a single small footprint located about 500m from the home.
Over the past eight months that Gus has been missing, extensive interviews, forensic examinations and multiple targeted searches across the 24,000 hectare property have been carried out.
The case has been declared a major crime scene, with detectives saying they do not believe Gus simply wandered off.
