For one day only, every donation to RSPCA WA will be doubled to help rehome and care for sick, injured and abused animals across the State.

Every dollar donated on Thursday, October 1, will be matched by RSPCA WA’s corporate partners and individual donors as part of its annual Give To Get Them Home appeal.

This will help meet the growing costs of rescuing, treating and caring for animals in need, covering vet consultations, difficult medical procedures and rehoming them once they have recovered.

RSPCA WA’s veterinary team conducted almost 15,000 vet consultations and surgeries in the past financial year. This was an increase of 20 per cent compared to the previous year, and more than 60 per cent compared to two years ago.

Animal cruelty rates have also been surging, with staff investigating more than 8000 cases last year — a 12 per cent increase on the previous year.

Perth puppies Lola and Pinkie are among those saved by efforts from RSPCA WA staff, and have both since been rehomed.

Terrier-cross Lola was only 11 months old when she was attacked by another dog, suffering wounds to her face and neck. Her owners were unable to afford urgent vet treatment and surrendered Lola to the RSPCA, where she accessed the treatment she needed.

One-year-old staffy Pinkie suffered from a serious eye problem called cherry eye, putting her at risk of permanent damage to her vision. She also had painful ear and skin infections, and chronic allergic skin disease.

After months in care with RSPCA WA and several complex surgeries, Pinkie finally found a family of her own.

Chief development officer Carol Morfitt said Give To Get Them Home supported dogs such as Lola and Pinkie to recover and find the loving families they deserved.

“Animals like Lola and Pinkie can require weeks or even months of treatment and care. There are vet consultations, surgeries and medications, but also the everyday essentials like shelter, bedding, enrichment, even toys and treats, and of course the time they need to feel safe and recover,” she said.

“That growing workload comes at a significant cost, which is why Give To Get Them Home is such an important day for RSPCA WA.

“For one day, the generosity of our matched givers means every donation from the WA community will go twice as far. A $50 donation becomes $100, and $100 becomes $200 worth of support for animals who desperately need a second chance.”

RSPCA WA partners Royal Canin, Bravecto, Peter Alexander, FTI Consulting and Buildcom will match any donation for today only.

Donations can be made online or by calling (08) 9209 9311.
