For the first time in ages nice weather and good tides occurred at the same time over a weekend.

Doctor’s Creek is still producing good barra and mud crabs but it appears those who got up early and headed west hit the jackpot over at Valentine Island.

This little rocky island just off the coast on the east side of the Dampier Peninsular is a favourite for locals.

Out of the brown waters of King Sound, it is a haven for salmon, barra, fingermark and cod close to the island.

If you venture out a bit, patchy reefs dot the area and are loaded with bluebone, snapper and larger fingermark. There are also several excellent creek systems that line the coast that are worth a fish and they are also packed with big green mud crabs.
