Training planned for big event
It’s time to circle your sports calendar, with dates confirmed for the Leading Edge Computers Cable Beach Triathlon on September 17.
Broome Triathlon Club committee member Hilary Wilkins said the Broome event was all locked in, but a registration day in the first week of April, a pre-triathlon training program and one competition per month were also being considered.
“We have got quite a lot on the cards this year starting with kids’ triathlons, the adults, and we are looking at doing a monthly triathlon in the club series,” she said.
A six-week children’s triathlon training program is planned for under-12s when the Broome Aquatic and Recreation Centre reopens in February.
Before the official season runs from April-September, eager athletes can hit the road in three different cycling groups at 6am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
The cyclists will ride in a 25km/h average speed group which leaves from Broome Cycles, while the 32km/h riders leave from Cable Beach carpark and the 40km/h-plus group sets off from BRAC.
