A well-known survival expert was in Broome last fortnight, promoting the relaunch of his best-selling book and new survival blanket.

Bob Cooper has more than 30 years of experience in outback safety and came to Broome to spread his message of safety to locals and tourists.

Although he was renowned for his survival skills in Australia for many years, Mr Cooper rose to international prominence in 2000 when his survival courses were filmed for a National Geographic series which featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Mr Cooper has also participated in two BBC documentaries in the UK and appeared in a segment on 60 Minutes.

Mr Cooper signed copies of his relaunched best-seller Outback Survival at the Kimberley Bookshop on April 21, before showcasing his new Help Survival Blanket to the North-West Mobile Force at a function that night and at Broome Boulevard Shopping Centre the following day.

The new blanket, released early last month, assists in rescuing people by displaying the word “help” and acting as shelter and warmth during an emergency.

Mr Cooper said his intention has always been to promote safety, not to promote himself.

Mr Cooper’s book and Help Survival Blanket are available at bobcoopersurvival.com.
