Cable Beach through to Gantheaume Point has been closed for swimming after a shark sighting this afternoon.

Lifeguards spotted a 3.5m shark directly offshore from the swimming flags on Cable Beach at about 3.30pm.

Shire rangers and lifeguards will continue to monitor the area and decide in 24-hours if the beaches will re-open. The Department of Fisheries has been notified.
