The growing popularity of women’s football was showcased as a development team from Perth travelled to the Kimberley for a training camp on Wednesday last week.

The V Swans Female Football side clashed with Broome at Haynes Oval and got the better of the home side, 10.7 (67) to 5.3 (33).

After hosting a community clinic, the team travelled to Looma to take on the WKFL premiership team, picking up a 36-point win.

Fremantle Football Club women’s captain and V Swans high performance manager Kara Donnellan said there were opportunities for footballers in the region to follow their dreams.

“The Kimberley is just raw talent — I love it. They’re fast, quick, hard and fearless,” she said.

“There are opportunities down in Perth after girls have completed school. Times have changed and there is a clear pathway for girls.

“Hopefully we will see a few Kimberley girls even playing in the purple soon.”
