The Broome racing season may be well and truly over, but ladies dusted off their fascinators and gents ironed their best suit to embrace this year’s Melbourne Cup.
A number of venues held functions across the Kimberley town, ranging from fashion parades and luncheons to low key lunch specials and a drink at the pub.
But no matter the setting, crowds could be heard cheering on the race that stops the nation as soon as the clock hit midday.
The celebrations trickled into the afternoon, including a four course extravaganza at the Mangrove Hotel, a seated lunch at Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa and a high tea luncheon at The Roey, with the latter hosting a fashion parade to showcase On the Lane Boutique’s latest collections.
Whether it was the lucky punters cashing in their winning bets or friends clinking a champagne glass and enjoying the afternoon off work, everyone was a winner in Broome on Melbourne Cup day.
