Leonard Earl Eades released on bail for allegation he punched woman’s teeth out while in a wheelchair

A man accused of punching a woman’s teeth out while sitting in a wheelchair has been granted bail. Leonard Earl Eades allegedly knocked on the bathroom door while the woman was inside on June 19 to ask for smokes. When she opened the door, police allege he immediately punched her in the mouth, causing her to swallow a tooth and knocking another one loose. It is allegedly he tried to punch her a second timebut she pushed his wheelchair away from her and went to the front door. Police allege Mr Eades got out of his chair and tried to follow her. Defence lawyer Leneva Polmear told Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court during a bail application last week that Mr Eades was presumed innocent of the charges and the time to trial would be lengthy. She said bail would give Mr Eades a chance to engage with the community-based order and suspended imprisonment order he was on at the time of the alleged offending. The prosecution opposed bail because of the seriousness of the allegations and Mr Eades’ past issues with bail and orders. Magistrate William Yoo said there was “no excuse” for that type of behaviour, but agreed they were only allegations at this point and the matter was likely to be oath-on-oath. He granted bail with a 7pm to 7am curfew, reporting condition and protective bail that he not contact the complainant or be within 50m of them. He urged Mr Eades not to “stuff it up” and adjourned the matter to a date in November for trial allocation.
