Heath service Bega Garnbirringu opened its doors on Thursday as part of its NAIDOC Week celebrations and to remind people where they can find help if they need it.

Manager Dena Rundle said it was important for the community to be aware of the support services accessible through Bega.

“It’s just about showing our community what programs we’ve got on offer here,” she said.

“At the heart of Bega is the clinic . . . we’ve also got NDIS, elders care, social emotional wellbeing, the Indigenous Tobacco Action Group team, the homeless team.”

Bega Garnbirringu also offers youth programs, mental health assistance, social work, sexual health support and an array of other services.

It was the second year in a row the health service had hosted an open day.

“Last year was a really successful event and this year’s turned out to be even bigger and better,” Ms Rundle said.

“We do it through NAIDOC Week, because there’s a lot of Aboriginal communities in town who can come along.”
