The Hay Park Redbacks have broken a streak of tough losses in the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association thanks to a three-wicket win over Colts at Hay Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Redbacks won the toss, electing to bat, and set 227 runs for Colts to chase.

Colts skipper Tim Hutchison blasted 81 off 108, continuing his stellar form, and was assisted by all-rounder Jaxon Magennis whose 29 runs off 36 balls put them within spitting distance — just 23 runs short.

The best on ground was Hay Park’s Fida Hussain with a four-wicket haul and an unbeaten 81-run knock, with Michael Tassone’s 65 off 110 proving very handy.

Hussain and Tassone combined for just four runs the previous week.

The winning runs came from tailender Tom Sletten, who made a quick 20 off 17 balls, including two majors.

There was a whole flock of golden ducks at Forrest Park, with Marist beating top-seeded Dalyellup by 42 runs.

Marist’s Nicholaas Le Roux, Haydn Slodecki, Jaxon Sims and Ben Martinson, and Dalyellup’s skipper Liam Renton and Jaiah Moore departed with heads under wing after first-ball wickets.

Despite an unusually large number of scoreless performances, the first innings had two stellar performances, with Marist’s Cooper Clarke-Dehring scoring 121 off 133, while Dalyellup’s Jacob Wintle took seven wickets, including Marist’s top three, to round out a superb showing with the bat.

Dalyellup got off to a hot start in the second innings, with openers Kyle Potter and Bradman May scoring 40 and 47 respectively, with Jaxon Cornford knocking 37 to round out the top three run-scorers.

While Dalyellup were probably on top before Cornford’s stumps were removed by Le Roux, a bottom-order collapse saw the away side fall short in the chase.

The weekend’s results reduce the gap between Dalyellup and Marist, the top two on the ladder, with Dalyellup only leading on points average, having a game in hand. Colts and Marist sit third and fourth, and Leschenault round out the table.

On Saturday, Leschenault will host Dalyellup at 12.30pm at Leschenault Reserve, while Colts and Marist go head to head at Recreation Ground.
