The dream start to the WKFL season has continued for the Cable Beach Greenbacks, who kept their undefeated streak alive in very convincing fashion recently.

The side kept their rivals the Broome Bulls to just one goal in round five of the league on Friday night, thumping them by 51 points to cement their spot as ladder leaders and flag favourites.

Tom Cox bagged a couple in the first quarter for the Greenbacks, with Sonny Dann kicking his first before the siren to bring the margin to 19 points heading into quarter-time.

The Bulls stepped up their defence in the second term and prevented Beach from getting on the scoreboard for the first 10 minutes.

But the floodgates opened when Matthew Kennelly booted one for his side, with Benjamin Gasior, Sam Fong and Keifer Yu all adding their names to the goal kicking list to extend the lead to 47 points at the main break.

The contest tightened up in the second half, with both sides applying solid pressure in the midfield and back line.

Dann kicked his second goal for the Greenbacks in the third term, which would be the side’s only goal for the half, while Arbon Matt finally got one on the board for the Bulls in the dying minutes of the fourth to bring the final score to 8.13 (61) to 1.4 (10).

Jordan King, Dion Parriman and Cox were the best for Cable Beach, who will go on to play the Saints tonight.

The Bulls will look to bounce back when they take on the Bombers on Saturday afternoon.
