Geraldton police launch investigation after black Holden Commodore crashes into properties & driver flees

Geraldton police are investigating after a driver fled a vehicle crash which resulted in fencing being damaged and a tree snapped in half. Police say a Holden Commodore was travelling north on Gertrude Street in Geraldton about 8pm on Wednesday when it lost control at a sweeping left-hand bend. The vehicle mounted the kerb and drove through the dividing fence between two houses on the street before ploughing into a front yard tree. Acting OIC Sen. Sgt Paul Burkinshaw said the impact was so forceful it took out the tree, with the top half of it found about 10 metres away. Despite the blow causing significant damage to the front end of the vehicle, Sen Sgt Burkinshaw said the driver attempted to back out of the garden and broke the water meter, getting stuck. The driver fled the scene and is yet to be found by police. Residents watched on as emergency services assessed the scene, with water spilling out of the street.
