Emus surge to second with stunning upset win
If there is one thing that is certain about the Bidyadanga Emus’ 2018 West Kimberley Football League season, it is that nothing can ever be certain.
The side has surged up to the second on the ladder after thrashing the Derby Tigers at home by 65 points on Saturday, in what has been considered one of the biggest upsets of the season.
The Emus have had a rollercoaster season, having a few surprise losses while picking up the big wins when it really counted but few saw Saturday’s result coming.
The Bidyadanga side came out strong and kicked five unanswered goals in the first term in front of their home ground.
Derby walked off the field at quarter time not having managed a single point. The Tigers found their feet a little more in the second, nailing two goals to one by the Emus.
They continued this surge with another two goals in the third quarter and it appeared the game could potentially be closer than expected.
But it was not meant to be for the Derby side, with the Emus going on a rampage in front of goal and kicking seven in the final term, while the Tigers were scoreless.
Derby’s slip in form this round meant they dropped to third on the ladder.
The Emus will look to protect their second spot on the ladder when they finish their home-and-away season off against the Saints this weekend.
The Derby side will look to bounce back strongly when they take on the Peninsula Bombers.
