Sopranos, baritones, mezzo- sopranos and tenors are set to perform as West Australian Opera beams the City of Perth’s Opera in the Park Gala Concert around WA this weekend.

The free 50th anniversary event conducted by Brad Cohen in Perth’s Supreme Court Gardens is being simulcast and screened live at 10 regional venues, including Broome’s Sun Pictures at 8pm on Saturday.

The program produced by Mandy Farmer is sure to excite, featuring the Toreador’s Song from Bizet’s Carmen, the widely recognised Anvil Chorus from the Mozart masterpiece Il Trovatore, and Nessun Dorma from Turandot by Puccini.

Die-hard opera fans will already have this Saturday circled as West Australian Opera Chorus and Western Australian Symphony Orchestra artists Emma Pearson, Fiona Campbell, Virgilio Marino, Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Sam Roberts-Smith entertain crowds.

A special fundraising event at Government House Gardens previews the performances in Perth, before the concert starts, with two acts concluding at 10.20pm. WAO has broadcast the City of Perth’s Opera in the Park since 2010 and is supported by Lotterywest, Healthway, the Department of Regional Development, the Community Resource Network and Westlink.

The show is also available in Albany, Bunbury, Busselton, Carnarvon, Esperance, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie-Boulder Margaret River, Merredin and Northbridge as well as on Westlink Regional Satellite TV Channel 602.
