Around 70 runners and school students gathered for an early morning sprint in the West Kimberley Clontarf Academy Community Fun Run at the weekend.

The third annual event was held at Gantheaume Point Beach with participants signing in before the run at 7am on Saturday.

The 4km journey went ahead from Gantheaume Point, north through the sand dunes for a lap of the Minyirr Park Base Camp before returning to the beach finish line via the steel Banu Stairs.

Jesse Evans, 15, set the pace from start to finish, crossing the line within 19 minutes, followed by Lyle Dickens, 14 in second place.

Sam Witten was the first adult male over line, while Tracey Evans had a solid run, claiming the first adult female honour.

In the junior category, Min-aki Connelly was the first junior male over the line and Jora-ni Pigram was the first junior female.

WKCA operations officer Ben De Meo said the event was a great opportunity for the Clontarf boys to mingle and give back to the community as good young leaders and role models.

The WKCA will next take part in the Sirens for Silence Football game against local emergency services on Friday, September 8.

The match will be followed by competing and volunteering at the Dragon Boat Regatta on September 9 and the traditional Golden Oldies Morning Tea, expected to take place later this year.
