A spokesperson for Queensland Police said a tip was received on November 6 via the National Security Hotline.
They said the tip was in relation to a man who police allege was making plans for acts of violence, which prompted a police investigation.
On Friday, an 18-year-old from South Gladstone was arrested by Detectives from the Counter-Terrorism Investigation Group and charged with one count of planning to cause death or grievous bodily harm.
He was refused bail and is expected to appear in court on Saturday.
