An alleged firebug has caused up to $15,000 damage to a vehicle parked outside the Karratha Police Station overnight.

Karratha Police are calling for witnesses who may have seen the incident overnight which left a car damaged and possibly written off.

At approximately 9.00pm on July 22, a vehicle parked outside the Karratha Police station was set alight.

Officer-in-charge Sergeant Uwais Cuff said the police had a man in custody assisting them with their inquiries.

Sgt Cuff said the damage bill could be up to $10,000 to $15,000.

“We are calling for witnesses that may have seen the gentleman around the car or have witnessed the vehicle on fire and may have stopped and assisted police last night,” he said.
