Two people in hospital after being hit by 4WD fleeing police after running red light

Two people are recovering in hospital after their car was hit by a 4WD being pursued by police after driving through a red light. The white Toyota LandCruiser station sedan drove through a red traffic control light at the intersection of Toodyay Road and Reid Highway in Middle Swan, east of the city, about 8pm. While fleeing police, the LandCruiser collided with a black Lexus sedan turning onto Reid Highway from Great Northern Highway. The Lexus driver, a 30-year-old man, was seriously injured and taken to Royal Perth Hospital, while his passenger, a 44-year-old woman was taken to St John of God Midland Public Hospital with minor injuries. The LandCruiser driver, a 36-year-old man, fled the scene but was later apprehended by police. He has since been released pending further inquiries. Officers from the Major Crash Investigation Section are urging anyone who saw the crash, or the white Toyota LandCruiser travelling in the area prior to the crash to contact Crime Stoppers.
