Women who allegedly assaulted, threatened and impeded a person’s breathing in home burglary to fight charges

Two women who allegedly assaulted, threatened to kill, and stole from a woman during a home burglary will fight the charges. Hallie Cindy Stewart, 29, and Lynda Shallane Kohi Kohi Josphine Tipuna, 23, appeared in the Narrogin Magistrates Court on August 5 for their second appearance on multiple indictable charges. The pair pleaded not guilty to aggravated home burglary and commit, assault occasioning bodily harm, threats to kill, stealing, and impeding another person’s breathing by blocking their nose and mouth. Prosecutor Sgt. Gary Simpson told the court the violent offending occurred in the victim’s home and the women stole a Samsung Galaxy S21 phone to the value of $2000. Ms Tipuna’s bail condition not to consume alcohol was removed at the request of defence counsel Wendy Stewart because alcohol was not involved in the alleged offending, and the accused is pregnant. Hallie Stewart’s bail remained the same. She will next appear at a trial listing hearing in Perth District Court on October 22, and Ms Tipuna at a trial listing hearing in Albany District Court on October 22. The stealing charge for both Hallie Stewart and Ms Tipuna is listed for mention at the Narrogin Magistrates Court on October 28. It’s alleged the offending was committed with a third co-accused, Dylan Whakautu Weko, who also appeared on the same list of charges but did not enter pleas. The 30-year-old will return to Narrogin Magistrates Court on September 30 for legal advice. Magistrate Erin O’Donnell said she was expecting pleas to be entered for Mr Weko. “There’s not any good reason you haven’t sought legal advice by now,” she said.
