Wickepin Netball Club hosted a competitive day of home games on Sunday for the first round of the Narrogin and Districts Netball Association winter competition, taking on Williams across multiple divisions.

The afternoon saw close contests across the grades, with home-side players showing determination and teamwork despite tough opposition from Williams.

Wickepin’s A1 side faced a strong Williams line-up, with fast ball movement in the mid-court from Sophie Beasley and their defensive pressure from Emmi Duff and Libby Boyce proving difficult to counter.

Wickepin continued to work hard and showed resilience, particularly through the mid-court and shooting connection from sister duo Abbey and Tyler Steere, but Williams took control to finish with a 16-goal victory, with final scores 55-39.

Best players went to Wickepin’s Jenna Bain and Bella Logie from Williams.

In A2, Wickepin showed moments of great connection through the mid court and accurate shooting in patches, but Williams maintained consistent pressure throughout the game.

Despite Wickepin’s efforts to close the gap, Williams secured the win 44 goals to 32.

Best players went to Marley Steere from Wickepin and Kate Flavel from Williams.

The A3 match proved to be the closest of the day, going right down to the final minutes of the last quarter.

In the end, Williams edged ahead by a single goal, taking the win 32 to 31 in a nail-biting finish.

Another special highlight of the day was the strong family representation on court, with four members of the Steere family lining up for Wickepin.

The Steere girls were out in force, with Kelly playing alongside her daughter Marley in Wickepin’s A2 side, while Tyler and Abbey took to the court together as a shooting duo in A1.
