IN PICTURES: Three-nights-only original comedy play Glory Days attracts nearly 500 audience members to Darkan

The never-seen-before stage production Glory Days transported 475 audience members to 1985 at the Darkan Town Hall in a tale about “big hair, big friendships and one mighty big grudge”. Written by local Joanne King, Glory Days followed the Forde family and their friends who featured in last year’s play Crop That for their next adventure — the West Arthur Bulldogs’ 40th premiership reunion where John Forde must face his best friend turned football enemy James Kernot. Time travelling to 1985, the characters’ younger selves sported classic mullets and blue eye shadow as audiences got a glimpse of how losing the fairest and best vote count shaped Forde’s life. Journeying from neighbouring towns and as far as Perth on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, audiences were treated with a bar, dinner and dessert served by the cast. King described her production as a story of “big hair, big friendships and one mighty big grudge” and the audience had only high praise across all three shows. On Saturday night King said she was proud of the cast and that everyone did “awesome”, and she hopes to wrangle the Darkan Arts and Drama group together next year for another original production.
