La Fiamma men’s first team secure win at home against Woodvale, reserves also triumphant in round eight

The Ugle Fabrications Geraldton La Fiamma men’s first team secured their first win at home this season with a solid 3-0 win against Woodvale on Saturday night after a strong win from the reserves.
With nerves high before the round eight game on Saturday night, the Reds had a big advantage with the home crowd behind them as they went to battle against Woodvale.
La Fiamma’s Lachlan Gray said playing at home was something the whole playing group looked forward to throughout the season.
“Playing at home for La Fiamma is one of the best feelings when playing football in Geraldton,” Gray said.
“The crowd is great and really pushed us to lift in tight situations.
“It was really nice to get the win at home in front of them in our first game back home.”
Kumbi Dzoma broke through in the 30th minute for La Fiamma, finding the back of the net putting the Reds up 1-0. Dzoma’s goal put the Reds on the front foot after 30 minutes of flat out attack on goal.
Gray then scored the Reds’ second goal in the 44th minute, which lifted the side as they headed into the sheds for the half-time break. The mood was high in the rooms and La Fiamma looked to pick up where they left off as the second half began.
La Fiamma’s goalkeeper Braiden Page was solid as he denied Woodvale any opportunities of getting on the board, managing to keep a clean sheet.
The second half was tight before Gray found his second goal and La Fiamma’s third in the 80th minute as the Reds won at home, 3-0.
La Fiamma’s captain Will Cable said it was a welcome win at home in front of friends and family.
“To be in round seven and not have a home game to that point was hard, but to get the win finally at home in our first one at home was special,” he said.
“To do it in front of family and friends was cool too and we put on a bit of a show for them with the win.”
Cable said the squad was well-rounded as they headed into this week’s bye coming off a win at home.
“We have a really great group of guys and we hope to keep playing more football together to build those connections,” Cable said.
“To get to head into the bye coming off a win at home is huge for us and we will continue to build.
“We had a rough start not having a home game for so long but to convert at home is everything. It really was great to secure those points at home.”
The La Fiamma men’s reserves secured a 7-2 win at home to Woodvale’s reserves.
