Aerospace engineer Richard Godfrey claims to have mapped where MH370 crashed off coast of Western Australia

Cutting-edge technology may have finally helped pinpoint where flight MH370 crashed into the Indian Ocean — and its final resting place. There are now hopes the new information will bring about another search next year some 2000km off the coast of WA. Aerospace engineer Richard Godfrey has managed to track the plane’s final movements and believes it hit the ocean 1933km west of Perth and lies at a depth of 4000m in a part of the ocean scarred with deep ravines. Incredibly, he said a previous search had narrowly missed his predicted crash site by less than 30km. Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014, before plunging into the southern Indian Ocean. The 239 passengers and crew aboard, including six Australians, were all killed. Among them was Perth man Paul Weeks. Mystery has surrounded its disappearance since then and searches have taken place in the South China Sea, Andaman Sea and southern Indian Ocean but with no luck. But now Mr Godfrey believes he may have a crucial breakthrough. He used a revolutionary technology called weak signal propagation, described as “a bunch of tripwires or laser beams” that span the globe. As aircraft fly through the “tripwire” the disturbance is recorded in a database. MH370 was tracked every hour by a satellite over the Indian Ocean and the communication was relayed to the UK. The plane will be located on or near the last satellite link-up. Mr Godfrey said the plane crashed about a minute after the final communication from the plane at 8.19am, at the foot of Broken Ridge, a major oceanic plateau. He said this location was “not in the original Australian Transport Safety Bureau search area as defined in 2015”. “It is, however, at the northern end of the extended 120,000sqkm search area as defined in 2016,” Mr Godfrey said, adding two other areas were searched but they were not near the predicted crash site. Astonishingly, he said a later search in 2018 by the US Ocean Infinity searched in 2018 missed MH370 by just 28km. Mr Godfrey said the estimated location aligns with satellite data, the aircraft’s performance and engineering data, the weather at the time and the 33 pieces of debris that have been recovered. “Taken together all this data supports an overwhelming case for a renewed search,” Mr Godfrey said. He is now preparing a detailed report for critical analysis in the hope of making this happen. It is also expected that underwater scanning data for MH370 will be re-examined by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
