A man has been hospitalised after being chased by a large farm animal in Darwin and hit in the chest.

The 50 year-old was run down by a cow on a property at East Arm, east of Darwin city.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said the incident happened at about 4pm on Tuesday afternoon.

“They were doing something out there in those loading areas with all of the cattle and was he hit in the chest quite badly,” he told ABC Darwin.

“It required us to attend and transport him to the Royal Darwin Hospital for a number of injuries, mainly around his chest area.”

Paramedics picked up the patient who had already left the scene and drove him to hospital.

He was in a stable condition.

“I believe he is making a big recovery,” Mr Garraway said.

“They were big cows and obviously all got a bit excited and he got caught in the middle of it all.”
