Midwives go an extra mile for families
The Broome Midwife Group Practice service has completed a five-month pilot program through the hospital, and met with success stories of the scheme at the end of June to celebrate.
MGP is a new care option available for women planning to give birth in Broome Hospital, and comprises a team of midwives offering consistent maternity care throughout the pregnancy, labour and first week of the baby’s life.
The MGP midwives are part of the Broome Hospital team, meaning that mothers have access to all the amenities during their pregnancy.
Families which used the service over the initial five months met midwives at Town Beach on Saturday, June 29.
Broome MGP co-ordinator Karen Coyle said 58 clients have used the service since January.
“The success of the pilot has resulted in Broome health services committing to further developing the MGP model as a choice for women who birth in Broome,” she said.
