Mangrove smashes Roebuck to remain the dominant force in Broome cricket

Top-of-the-ladder Mangrove Cricket Club saw off Roebuck Bay Cricket Club with a strong win in round six of of the Broome Cricket Association’s 2022 competition over the weekend. Roebuck won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision they perhaps regretted after the number one team smashed 166-3 in 20 overs. Roebuck’s Ryley Alexander looked the most hopeful to match the almost insurmountable Mangrove score, but was caught out on 35 — the highest individual total for any Roebuck batsmen on the day. On Saturday, Dirty Dozen’s M. Blackley was the shining star of the B-grade game between his team and Broome Pearlers, smashing 52 runs off as many balls. Despite his high-scoring effort, it was the consistency of Broome Pearlers that took out the win, finishing with 112 off 19.1 overs and restricting their rivals to 104-4 off 19 overs. Jake Moschion finished with 28 runs off 44 balls, followed by Chris Bull with 20 and Christopher Johnson with 17. The final match of the weekend played out between Mangrove and Roebuck B-Grade teams, where Roebuck batted first finishing with 112-4 off 20 overs. Roebuck’s Ryley Alexander was the team’s chief run-scorer with an unmatched 47, followed by 21 from Nick Allen and Riley Oldfield’s 20. The team’s win was also a credit to some solid fielding, particularly by Troy Oldfield who took two catches. Mangrove’s run chase fell just short, and they finished with 108-8 off the 20 overs.
