Man accused of threatening to kill partner and child denied bail

A man accused of threatening to kill his de facto partner and her child with a kitchen knife has been denied bail in Broome Magistrate’s Court this morning.
Claude Pilkington, 21, is charged with two counts of threatening to kill, one count of an act to cause bodily harm, one count of deprivation of liberty and one count of common assault in circumstances of aggravation.
Police alleged Mr Pilkington had kicked a child in the chest during an argument with the child’s mother, who is also the accused’s de facto partner, at a Broome residence yesterday.
The court was told the mother took the child to the bathroom and Mr Pilkington then threatened to kill them both while holding a kitchen knife.
Magistrate Steven Sharratt said the mother had received injuries including a “massive” gouge to the side of her face, a bite mark to her nose and a deep cut to her leg during the incident and had to be taken to hospital.
However, Mr Pilkington has denied causing the wounds and is alleging they are self-inflicted.
Although Mr Pilkington’s defence sought for protective bail conditions to allow him to seek counselling, Mr Sharratt opposed the application.
Mr Pilkington has been remanded in custody and will appear in court for a committal mention on June 24.
