Linton Patrick Sampi: Unlawful killing charge for Broome man who allegedly ran over partner in driveway

A Broome man who allegedly ran over and killed his partner last year has had his dangerous driving occasioning death charges dropped in favour of an alternative charge of unlawful killing. Linton Patrick Sampi appeared in Broome Magistrates Court on April 4 on charges of dangerous driving occasioning death while under the influence of alcohol. Prosecutors elected to have this charge dropped to pursue an alternative charge of unlawful killing another under such circumstances as not to constitute murder. It is alleged Mr Sampi got behind the wheel at his D’Antoine Street home at around 12.30am on March 17 last year when his vehicle struck his partner Candice Shea who was lying in the driveway. She later died from her injuries. The court heard the 42-year-old had a blood alcohol reading of 0.204 when the incident unfolded in front of their children and Ms Shea’s family members. Mr Sampi is currently under protective bail conditions which forbid him from contacting the witnesses, who suffer “significant emotional distress”. He will appear in court on April 24.
