Halls Creek welcomes new Sports and Recreation Manager

The Shire of Halls Creek has welcomed Eldean Macale as its newest sports and recreation manager who, with a strong vision for local youth and a passion for his homeland, is ready to make a significant impact. A proud Jaru man, Mr Macale recently returned to Halls Creek with his partner Dilly and their five children. “This land is where I want my children to grow up, it’s special to me,” he said, reflecting on his decision to move back to the East Kimberley after spending several years away. Growing up in Kununurra and Wyndham, Mr Macale began his career at Argyle diamond mine, where he transitioned from carpentry to plant production. His career in the mining industry eventually took him to Port Hedland with Fortescue. However, the call of his homeland remained strong, and after seven years away, he returned to Halls Creek. Upon his return, Mr Macale shifted his focus from mining to community work. Starting as a field worker with the Department of Communities, he later moved into domestic violence prevention roles at Yura Yungi, where his leadership saw him rise to the role of manager. “Helping my people, guiding them through tough times, has always been my calling,” he said. Now, as the manager of sports and recreation for the Shire of Halls Creek, Mr Macale is eager to support local youth, guiding them towards positive activities like sports, fishing, and hunting. As a well-known local footy coach, he looks forward to next year’s reopening of the oval. “I can’t wait to see the kids out there, playing, growing stronger,” he said.
