After five rounds of mixed netball, Broome’s top team have nabbed the season trophy after yet another spectacular win.

The Greenbacks remained undefeated as they stepped up to the court on Monday December 5.

Their opponents, the Fossils, had been unbeaten as well this season, save for two matches against their Monday-night rivals.

The Fossils were therefore well established to put up a fight in their final match.

The first half was a quick back-and-forth between goal circles, with the Greenbacks edging closer to the lead with some quick and determined passing.

The first half finished with the Greenbacks in the lead, 17-14.

Possibly tired from their initial show of strength, the Fossils fell back during the third quarter.

This allowed the season’s top-of-the-ladder team to add six points to their lead, finishing on 25 against the Fossils’ 16.

The Fossils had a burst of energy in the last term, pushing back enough to add eight goals to their tally.

However, it came too late.

Greenbacks finished on 31, six points ahead of the Fossils, winning the team a well-deserved trophy for this season’s efforts.

Across the other divisions, scores were more distinct.

Division two’s grand final between Orl Blaks and Nets finished with the former more than doubling the latter’s score, finishing 35-16.

The division three match between Big Ball Energy and Unknowns did not come to pass after the former forfeited.

Broome’s mixed netball competition is run by the Shire of Broome and will pick up again in 2023.
