Finals berth fight gathers momentum

It just gets more interesting as the 2012 finals of the West Kimberley Football League competition loom, with the best performers striving to topple each other off the top of the ladder.

Cable Beach remain on top following a modest win over Derby Tigers on Saturday, 15.10(100) to 11.4(70), a match which dropped third-placed Tigers down to fifth. Towns have kept second spot, and are nipping at the heels of Cable Beach, after demolishing the Bidyadanga Emus under lights last Friday evening, 11.9(75) to 5.9(39).

Towns are just 10 points behind the leaders and will now be coveting a finals spot.

Meanwhile, the Bulls, 22.20 (152), only allowed the Peninsula Bombers to take a meagre five points away from their match during sunny conditions at Haynes Oval on Saturday.

Bulls now sit third, on 32 points, just behind Towns.

The remaining game from round nine, between the Peninsula Bombers and Derby Tigers, will be played next weekend, but for most teams, this weekend’s games will decide their placement, or not, in the semi-finals which start on August 25.

Round 14 kicks off this Saturday at Haynes Oval.

Cable Beach will play Bulls at 11am, Bidyadanga Emus and Saints will be opposed at 1pm and Looma Eagles will take on Peninsula Bombers at 3pm. Towns will travel to Derby to tackle Tigers
