Fair Game donates 70kg of sports equipment to flood-affected Kimberley

An Australian not-for-profit organisation bringing sport to under-privileged youth has facilitated the donation of sporting equipment to flood-impacted communities in the Kimberley. Fair Game Australia hosts health and fitness activities for children in underserviced communities and ordinarily runs school holidays programs in Fitzroy Crossing during January. This year, with the help of Government services and the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley, Fair Game were able run their health and fitness program as usual, but this time, with extra baggage. A 70kg delivery of pre-loved basketballs, soccer balls and footballs was brought to the community, donated by the public and other organisations. Fair Game trip leader Ally Wagner spoke on a Fitzroy Crossing local radio station about the donation. “(Department of Local Government, Spot and Cultural Industry) were big players in putting us up in Broome and also helping us get about 70kg of basketballs and footies which we heard were in high demand,” she said. “Fair Game functions all over WA and a really nice piece of our program is that any community, whether that be school or a youth program . . . can request equipment and then we’re able to get it shipped for free directly to the community.” “We don’t think there should ever be a time where kids don’t have a basketball or footy to kick around.” Fair Game Australia operates across the Kimberley, in communities including Mowanjum, Pandanus Park, Yakanarra, Bayulu, Balgo and many more. Equipment can be donated via the website through the Recylcle & Donate program which distributes more than 8000 items a year.
