Burglar email alerts

A spike in burglaries at commercial properties and businesses has prompted police to set up a system allowing them to rapidly notify businesses when there has been an incident in their immediate area.

Officer-in-charge Alan Armstrong said as tourists have descended on Broome over the past month, the rate of burglaries at accommodation providers in Broome had increased — and police had been notifying others in the area so they could be on alert.

“It worked really well, having email addresses of businesses in the area and using them as a fast response when their area has been targeted,” Sen. Sgt Armstrong said.

Police are now also focusing on alerting businesses and properties within light industrial areas which have been targeted. Commercial businesses who would like to ensure they are included should email their details to broome.police.station@police.wa.gov.au.
