Two Broome boxers will face off in the ring on the weekend, in the first sanctioned boxing tournament to be hosted in Broome for years. On Saturday night December 3, Broome fighters Baden Trunfio and Aiden McKenna, who have both featured in the Advertiser previously for their skills in the martial arts arena, will go toe to toe in the ring for three, one and a half minute rounds in the 95kg division. Hosted at the Broome Civic Centre, the Kimberley Boxing Championship will feature 21 bouts with seven belts up for grabs on the night. Boxers from as far as Alice Springs, as well as fighters from Kununurra, Derby, Karratha, Geraldton, Northam, Perth, Mandurah and Albany will travel to Broome for what Broome Boxing Club head coach and event organiser Conor Gerrard described as “the biggest boxing event this town will have seen.” Broome Boxing Club legend Luke Kent will also feature in the last bout for the night, going head to head against Eric Kyanga from Geraldton for four two minute rounds in the cruiserweight class. Doors open at 3pm with the first bout scheduled for 4pm. Tickets for the Kimberley Championship can be purchased through the stickytickets website.
