Grants pave the way for new Esperance cycle paths

The Shire of Esperance has been awarded a $242,500 grant to build a new cycle path near the town’s foreshore.

The shared pathway will stretch 1.5km from the seaside Castletown Quays to Daw Drive.

The Esperance project was among 63 awarded more than $7.6 million under the WA Bicycle Network grant funding round.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the funding boost would help create more than 50km of new cycle paths.

“There are countless benefits to walking and riding, which is why the WA Government continues to add to its record funding of cycling infrastructure through the WA Bicycle Network grants scheme,” she said.

“To get more people riding more often, we need to build safe and accessible facilities, which is why we have prioritised facilities that connect communities to the primary cycle network and public transport hubs.”

The WABN scheme sees the State Government match funding with local governments to assist with the planning, design and construction of bicycle infrastructure.

The new cycle paths will be built duringthe next two years.
