Students young and old in the Shire of Ravensthorpe are in for a treat this month, with Esperance-born, Kalgoorlie-based creative Sarah-Jayne Eeles touring the region to inspire the next generation.

The two-time published author will visit primary and secondary students in Lake Grace, Ravensthorpe, Lake King, Hopetoun and Jerramungup from March 22 thanks to the Regional Arts WA Resilience Grant, which supports the arts amid the impact of COVID-19 on the industry.

Combining her writing and performing skills, Ms Eeles’ workshops will be an interactive and fun way for students to learn more about creative industries.

“Growing up in the region is a wonderful experience, but we just don’t have the same opportunities and access to as many experiences, events and workshops like these,” she said.

“The workshops are focused on curiosity, imagination, storytelling and working your creative dreams, and use a combination of improv games, writing exercises and visual props.”

With 13 workshops in-school and after school, Ms Eeles has crafted different sessions to appeal to different age groups.

“These workshops focus more on finding ways to tell stories and it gives students up-close access to an author, especially one with a regional upbringing like themselves living and working their creative dream who they can ask questions ...“ she said.

“It's more about the different ways stories can be told, everyone is different and have different ways of expressing their themselves.”

The workshops are put on in conjunction with Rave About Arts, and have been made possible with funding from Department of Local Government, Sports and Culture, the royalty for regions funded Regional Arts Cultural Investment Program and Regional Arts WA.

Ms Eeles will host a workshop for adults on The Wellness Weekend in Ravensthorpe on Saturday, March 20 and March 21.
