UGSFL 2025: Boddington’s class shines to stay unbeaten after four rounds and Kukerin-Dumbleyung on the board

Boddington’s perfect start to their premiership defence in the Upper Great Southern Football League continued with a 70-point victory over Katanning Wanderers at Quartermaine Oval on Sunday. All four games in Belt-Up Round were played on Sunday but it was the Eagles who emerged victorious over the Tigers, courtesy of a 10-goal second half. The Eagles were in control from the start with the Tigers’ sloppy skills giving the visitors plenty of turnovers as they led by 18 points at quarter time. Spearhead Mitchell Dobson booted seven goals for the Eagles who kicked five goals in the second term and another six in the third on their way to a 19.13 (127) to 8.9 (57) win. The Tigers, through the pressure of Chace Campbell, tried desperately to halt the visitors’ momentum. James Laurino, Jake Blight, Tyrone Roe, Joshua McMahon (three goals) and Braydon Keley joined Campbell in the best players, but they were outclassed in the end. Harry Cabalzar, Kaleb Germain, Luke Kirk and Matthew White also kicked multiple goals for the Eagles while Troy Egerton-Warburton, Dylan Kirk, Luke Kirk, Callum Giles-Morton, Zak Pretty and Jarrod Salmeri were all influential. Kukerin-Dumbleyung registered their first win of the season, with a hard-fought 13-point triumph over Brookton-Pingelly at Stubbs Park on Sunday. The Cougars kicked five unanswered goals in a dominant second term, setting up the 11.7 (73) to 8.12 (60) result. The Panthers won the second half after booting five goals, but slipped to their third loss of the new season. Midfielder Will Liston continued his brilliant start in Cougars colours, racking up plenty of the ball around the stoppages while Jye Depane, Mitchell O’Neill, Austin Shotter, Sheldon Taylor and Toby Perrin were also influential. Jake Nelson and Liam Park were key targets in attack, kicking two goals each. Joshua Lee and Reese Richardson combined for six majors in a losing affair while Sean Fletcher, Ben Dalton, Liam Beacom, Lewis Parsons and Justin Rowe were strong contributors. Wickepin also remain unbeaten, setting up a blockbuster top of the table clash this Saturday, after an away win over Williams. Little separated the two sides in the first three quarters but the Warriors piled on five goals to nil in the final term while on their way to a 39-point victory at Williams. Kailen Leahy, Fraser Wittwer, Ryan Melvin (three goals), Mitchell Henley, Trent Obrien and Ben Hankinson were the best players for the visitors. The Cats were best served by Jackson Ryan, Jarryd Morton, Kyle Shanahan, Bradley Jetta, Ratu Tevita Tharpe and Stevie Smith while Gerard Medlen played a lone hand in attack with three goals. In the other round four contest, Narrogin powered to a 63-point win over Wagin at Matera Oval. The Hawks have won three games in the first month of the season and had too much firepower up front against the Bulldogs. Will Wiggett starred with five goals while Coen Jackman (three) and Malachi Bolton (two) chipped in as the Hawks soared to a 14.16 (100) to 5.7 (37) result. Declan Phillips, Tom Kilpatrick, Declin Mumby, Jack Walsh, Anton Hanson and Jordan Heil were terrific for the visitors. Ayden Cartwright played his first game for the Bulldogs and kicked two goals to be one of their best while Nicholas Mcmahon, Nick Menegola and Max Mumme also toiled hard.
