GSCA 2025-26: Bandicoots in the pink with win on Pink Stumps Day while Flynn Cristinelli flies for Tambellup
Broomehill stamped their authority on the Great Southern Cricket Association’s Bendigo Bank Shield with a 107-run home win over Kojonup on Saturday’s Pink Stumps Day.
The charity day is an annual contribution to the McGrath Foundation and the ladder leaders celebrated in style as they raised $2000 for a good cause before scattering the Cougars’ pink stumps for 115 as they chased the Bandicoots’ 222 all out.
Max Jordison took the honours with the bat, leading the way for the Bandicoots with 73 off 101 balls.
He had useful assistance from Mac Crichton, who was run out by Harry Taylor when just two short of his half century, and David Hinchcliffe who crunched 41 off 34 balls at the top of the tail.
Despite the Bandicoots’ useful tally, there was still some decent Kojonup bowling as Peter Robertson claimed 4-33 and Travis Abbott 3-32.
Bon Lucev took three catches behind the stumps — all off Robertson’s bowling.
The Cougars’ batting was not up to scratch, however, with Lachlan O’Shea’s 21 the top score and last week’s double-centurion Harry Taylor next best with 20.
The Barritt brothers James and Lewis took three wickets each, Lewis stealing the show with 3-23 compared to James’ 3-39.
While the Bandicoots have a stranglehold on the ladder, second-placed Tambellup improved their position over Kendenup in third with a high-scoring win over their nearest rivals.
Batting first at Tambellup, Kendenup motored to 8-243 in their 45 overs, Darcy Roberts leading the way with an 83-run slog which came off 82 balls.
Together with Seb Ballard (43) the pair put on 70 for the first wicket but it was Ryan Pope (31) and Jack Horrocks (30no) who picked up the cudgels after Roberts fell victim to a Lachlan Bradshaw catch off the bowling of Henry Gillam.
Gillam was the pick of the Kendenup bowlers with his figures of 3-28.
Flynn Cristinelli made light work of the run chase, swatting 104 from 107 balls and remaining unbeaten as Tambellup confidently made their way to 4-244 in the 43rd over.
Daniel Nazzari was the other unbeaten man, his 37 coming off 40 balls.
Seb Ballard was Kendenup’s best bowler with 2-40.
Katanning Wanderers also notched a good score, Craig Clinch coming in at No.7 to wallop 65 off 42 balls as they made 223 all out against Australs North in the Katanning derby.
Adam Edwards helped the score along with 39 off 41 balls and then Braydon Keley hit 28 off 27 balls in a final flourish.
It was not a tally the Lions were ever going to match but they gave it a crack and reached 102 with Bradley Garstone their top batter nailing 23 at a run a ball.
David Potter was next best with 19 for the winless Lions.
In the Twenty20 ladder, Kendenup’s victories on Sunday over Australs North and Kojonup put them top of the table by a point.
They were eight-wicket winners over the Lions and overcame the Cougars by 21 runs to go clear at the top from Kojonup.
Green Range-Ongerup were eight-wicket victors over Tambellup and sit third on the ladder.
Kendenup reached 2-64 to pass the Lions’ 9-59 in their first outing before setting the Cougars a chase of 159.
The Cougars fell short, notching 9-137.
Green Range-Ongerup dispatched Tambellup whose 72 all out was easily caught as their opponents made 2-77.
