Four people have been rescued after their boat capsized on the way back from Rottnest Island on Monday evening.

A group of work friends were on their way back from a trip to Rottnest Island when a big wave hit them and capsized the boat just off Hillarys, around 6pm.

One of the men managed to call triple 0 before they were forced to abandon the boat.

The four men were out in the water for around 45 minutes before they were rescued by a Rottnest ferry skipper.

A St John ambulance checked over the men, once they were back safely on land, and all were understood to be in a good condition.

More to come.
