NSW man charged in sex assault cold case
A man has been charged with sexually assaulting and abducting a woman at Byron Bay on the NSW north coast nearly 25 years ago.
The woman, then 23, was at home when she was confronted by a man unknown to her on the night of October 23, 1998.
The woman was assaulted, sexually assaulted, threatened and detained by the man for a period of time before he left, police said.
The case was reopened last year following a cold case review, resulting in police arresting a 49-year-old man in South Grafton on Wednesday.
He has been charged with aggravated break and enter, aggravated sex assault inflicting bodily harm and forcible abduction of a woman with intent.
He was refused bail to appear at Grafton Local Court on Thursday, where he was formally refused bail to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on Monday.
