Manhunt underway for thugs who impersonated WA Police officers before robbery at Carlisle home
A manhunt is underway for two thugs who impersonated WA Police officers executing a search warrant before they stole a luxury watch, diamond ring and tens of thousands in cash from a Carlisle home.
Detectives from the Cannington rapid high harm offender squad have exhausted all leads and are pleading for the public’s help to find two men and a white SUV after the “traumatic” robbery on August 29.
Detective First Class Constable Andre Ferreira said the two men knocked on the door of a home on Planet Street about 12.20am wearing blue clothing and an imitation police vest.
He said the two men stated they were police officers before they produced fake documents — relating to a search warrant — before they were let inside.
“Once inside, one of the men watched the two occupants as the other searched through one of the occupants rooms.”
“The offenders stole a quantity of cash and a number of personal items, including jewelry, before fleeing the premises in a white SUV.
“It‘s very, very traumatic for for the occupants of the home, obviously, they were quite traumatized at the time.
Det-Const. Ferreira said police were investigating if the offenders were known to an occupant of the home, but were confident the owner of the items was not connected. He said the diamond ring and watch, a diamond-encrusted Rolex Datejust, were legitimate — estimated to also be worth tens-of-thousands.
There were no reports of injuries or threats made to the occupants.
CCTV released by police shows two men leaving the address carrying lit torches and wearing what appears to be an imitation police vest.
Det-Const. Ferreira said it was “concerning” people could purchase fake police clothing online before having it shipped to your front door.
He said police were investigating if there was any links to organised crime, with the amount of cash stolen in the “tens of thousands”.
“We have thrown a significant amount of resources into the investigation and will not stop until these people apprehended and before the courts,” he said.
“We need the help of the community to identify the people involved.”
“Someone out there knows something.”
“We also remind members of the public that if there’s any uncertainty about the identification of police, they will always carry identification, whether it be a badge or a lanyard that will have their regimental on it and their full name. “
Police have released images of the stolen jewellery in the hopes anyone may be able to alert police to the sale, or potential sale, of the items.
A man behind the burglary was described as being between 45 and 55-years-old with a medium build and clean shaven. The second offender is described as also being clean shaven, approximately between 30 to 40 with slim build.
Anyone with information, or who has vision of the white SUV — which was pictured around the Carlisle train station at the time of the incident — is asked to contact police on 1800 333 000 or online.
