A 37-year-old man has been arrested over a hit and run in Mandurah that left a young man fighting for life.

Police say a 20-year-old pedestrian was walking on Steerforth Drive in Coodanup when he was hit by vehicle — believed to be a white Hyundai Getz — about 9.30pm on Monday.

The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Peel Health Campus before being transferred to Royal Perth Hospital.

“The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene or render assistance to the victim,” a police spokesperson said.

The 37-year-old man is assisting police with inquiries.

The Hyundai has also been seized.
