Carlisle: Police charge man with police impersonation after cash, jewellery stolen in Planet Street burglary

Detectives have charged a man with a string of offences after he allegedly dressed as a police officer before stealing a luxury watch, diamond ring and tens of thousands in cash from a Carlisle home. But police say another person remains on the run as they continue their investigation into the “traumatic” incident that unfolded inside a Planet Street home in the early hours of August 29. Detective First Class Constable Andre Ferreira, of the Cannington rapid high harm offender response team, said the two men allegedly stated they were police officers before they produced fake documents — relating to a search warrant — before being let inside the property. “It‘s very, very traumatic for the occupants of the home, obviously, they were quite traumatised at the time,” he said. The men allegedly stole a diamond ring and watch — a diamond-encrusted Rolex Datejust — and tens of thousands in cash. One of the men watched the occupants while the other searched the home for the luxury items, police said. There were no reports of injuries or threats made to the occupants. CCTV released by police shows two men leaving the address in a white SUV carrying lit torches and wearing what appears to be an imitation police vest. On Wednesday a WA Police spokeswoman said a 45-year-old man from Palmyra had been charged with 17 offences over the incident. “The stolen ring has been recovered by police but the other personal items remain outstanding,” she said. His charges include property laundering, deprivation of liberty, unlawfully possessed a firearm or major firearm part, aggravated home burglary and one count of having ready access to both weapons and illegal drugs. Det-Const. Ferreira previously said police were investigating if the offenders were known to an occupant of the home, but were confident the owner of the items was not connected. He said police were investigating if there was any links to organised crime, with the amount of cash stolen in the “tens of thousands”. The investigation into the whereabouts of the second male is ongoing, with anyone with information urged to contact Crime Stoppers. Police made a public appeal for information through the media earlier this month after having exhausted all leads in their investigation.
