Broome police charge 14-year-old girl with serious assault of 13-year-old girl at Cable Beach oval

A 14-year-old girl has been charged over a horrific unprovoked attack on another young teenager at a Broome oval in which she allegedly threw the victim to the ground and punched, kicked and stomped on her head. It is alleged the teenage accused attacked the younger teen at a sporting oval in Cable Beach about 8.50pm on Friday, leaving her needing hospital treatment. WA Police Inspector Geoff DeSanges said it is alleged the girl approached the victim unprovoked before “throwing the victim to the ground and proceeding to punch and kick her to the head”. The victim was taken to Broome Hospital for injuries, including scratching and bruising. “A 13-year-old having her head stomped on, she is fortunate that she does not have more serious injuries,” Insp. DeSanges said. “It’s a nasty situation.” The 14-year-old accused was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and is due to appear in Broome Children’s Court on June 9. Insp. DeSanges said the girls were known to each other. Footage of the attack is reportedly circulating in the Broome community and police have acquired CCTV of the incident, with officers deployed as part of Operation Regional Shield helping to resolve the matter.
