Broome sexual assaults: 28-year-old man charged over two alleged sex assaults on young women

A 28-year-old man has been charged with almost 20 offences following two alleged sexual assaults on two young women at popular tourist spots in Broome. Police will allege the man sexually assaulted a 24-year-old woman at Gantheaume Point Beach in the Broome suburb of Minyirr about 9.30pm on Saturday night. It is further alleged the man then sexually assaulted a 25-year-old woman who was asleep inside her van at the Town Beach car park on Robinson Street about 2.30am on Sunday. Police say the woman awoke to find the man inside her vehicle. He was arrested on Sunday morning about 11am following “extensive investigative actions” by police. Broome detectives have charged the man with 18 offences. The man has been charged with nine offences in relation to the Gantheame Point Beach alleged assault including two counts of attempted aggravated sexual penetration without consent and three counts of impeding another person’s normal breathing or blood circulation by applying pressure to neck. In relation to the second alleged assault, the man is facing nine charges including one count of aggravated home burglary and one count of threatening to kill. He is due to appear in Broome Magistrates Court on Monday after he was refused bail.
