Coffin Cheaters associate Brandon James Weston found with firearms, ammunition & meth despite lifetime gun ban

A Mandurah man with bikie links and a lifetime gun ban was sentenced to prison last Tuesday after he was found with two homemade guns and ammo in his underwear. Brandon James Weston pleaded guilty to four counts of possessing an unlicensed firearm or ammunition and possession of methamphetamine and was sentenced at Mandurah Magistrates Court. Police prosecutor Snr Const. Jess Anderson told the court gang crime officers stopped Weston while he was riding his Harley-Davidson on Reserve Drive in Mandurah on February 8. Before being searched, the 31-year-old told officers he had a firearm concealed in his motorbike and ammunition in his underwear. Weston was arrested and taken to Mandurah police station, where 1g of methamphetamine was found in his underwear during a search. A search of Weston’s home also turned up a second firearm hidden in his bathroom sink and more rounds of .22 ammunition. Weston, who has links to the Coffin Cheaters, was banned for life from owning guns in 2018. Lawyer Leo Hartley said Weston had owned the homemade weapons for some time and had decided to get rid of them. “About three years ago, he was stabbed twice in the stomach, and it was around that time he got (the guns) out of fear,” Mr Hartley said. “He found them in a storeroom and was trying to figure out what to do with them.” Mr Hartley said Weston was employed at Alcoa, had a pregnant partner and was trying to live a “prosocial” life. But Magistrate Leanne Atkins questioned why Weston had failed to pay $1000 worth of outstanding fines. “You know why you’re not allowed a firearms licence,” Ms Atkins said. “You could have surrendered them to police. You didn’t. “You know they could have fallen into the hands of any nefarious person.” Weston was sentenced to eight months in prison suspended for a year for possession of the guns and given a global fine of $1000.
