Arron Wesley Crawford: Former WA fast bowler turned budding Rock Machine bikie on parole over home invasion

A rising WA fast bowler turned budding bikie who swapped the cricket bat for a baseball bat and broke a man’s leg during a violent home invasion has been released from jail. Arron Wesley Crawford was granted parole by the Prisoners Review Board after serving almost six years behind bars for his role in the chaotic July 2019 attack. Once a promising cricket star, Crawford rose through Dennis Lillee’s Bowling academy before going on to play for WA in 2008 debuting alongside Tests stars Shaun Marsh, Marcus North and Adam Voges. His ambitions to one day don the baggy green for himself were curtailed by injury, sending Crawford into a spiral of drug use and mental health issues. He had also become affiliated with the Rock Machine outlaw bikie gang. In March 2022, he was jailed for seven and half years after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm and aggravated home burglary over the baseball bat attack. At the time, Perth’s District Court was told Crawford had attended the property with his fiance Levi-Jade Bevin who had “conned” the victim into thinking she was coming to his house to buy drugs, and she would bring a friend who would pay with sex. The court was told Crawford had agreed to accompany his fiance to the property as “protection” - after she had previously claimed the victim had allegedly sexually assaulted her while they had been in a relationship. After the pair and another man broke in, Crawford - armed with the bat - was urged to break the man’s leg — he obliged with a single swing. He then gave the victim a drink of Baileys and a cigarette telling the man: “I’m not all c...”. As the trio left, the unknown offender told the victim to “have a think about how you treat women” and allegedly threw a table at the his head and arms. In deciding to grant Crawford parole, the Prisoners Review Board took into consideration his effort to rehabilitate since he was incarcerated, and his limited criminal history. He had participated in a voluntary drug and alcohol rehab program which the board said “demonstrates a motivation and willingness” to address his offending behaviour. He would continue to receive private counselling upon his release and was supported by his family. Crawford will have to abide by a number of conditions while on parole including that he not associate with nominees, associates and members of outlaw motorcycle gangs, and he cannot consume alcohol or enter a licensed premises. The parole order will remain in place until mid-2027.
