Darling Downs bushfire: Bushfire downgraded, but residents warned to stay alert and monitor surroundings
A bushfire in Perth’s south-east has been downgraded, but residents have been warned to continue to stay alert and monitor their surroundings.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued an emergency warning for parts of Darling Downs and Hilbert about 4.25pm on Monday, before downgrading it to an advice level about 9pm.
Authorities confirmed there was no threat to lives or homes, but urged residents to watch for signs of a bushfire.
“Be aware of other potential dangers such as falling trees and damaged properties and infrastructure,” a DFES spokesperson said.
“Close all doors and windows and stay inside if smoke is causing you concern.
“Be ready if the situation escalates. Read through your plan.”
The blaze — first reported about 3.30pm — is stationary, contained and under control, with firefighters still at the scene patrolling and mopping up.
The Bureau of Meteorology recorded a top of 41.3C near Jandakot about 2.30pm on Monday afternoon, with temperatures continuing to swelter past 34C about 4.30pm.
A separate advice warning is in place for locals by Orton Road to the north, Soldiers Road to the east, Cardup Siding Road to the south and Hopkinson Road to the west in parts of Byford and Cardup.
“Continue to stay alert and monitor your surroundings,” a DFES spokesperson said.
“Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.”
