South West stars at forefront of WA’s stand-out performances at Hockey Australia Country Championships

Stars from the South West were at the forefront of WA Country’s stand-out performances at the Hockey Australia Country Championships last week. Finishing on top of the standings earned a men’s side featuring seven players from the region a place in the grand final against Queensland, who they had suffered their only loss of the pool stage to. Queensland opened the scoring in the 13th minute but goals from Boyanup’s Jack Tosana and Alex Liddiard saw WA overturn their deficit and win 2-1. Tosana was named player of the grand final and was one of three players from Boyanup to earn an accolade, with Brayden Dalton finishing as the tournament’s leading goal-scorer with 13 across seven games and Kyle Potter named player of the tournament. The men’s outfit was also coached by two of Boyanup’s mentors in Lawrie Tylor (head coach) and Dean Lomax (assistant coach). A women’s side featuring Boyanup’s Pheonix Green and Associates’ Isabell Duff claimed the bronze medal with a 3-0 win over the Australian Defence Force in the third-placed play-off, with Green named as the player of the final.
